I have written before about how Singaporeans behave and how their thinking have been conditioned - they react in very set patterns. The recent earthquake in Haiti highlights once again the type of calculated and sometimes cold thinking spawned by the government.
It appears that from the past several tragedies elsewhere, the standard donation sum for aid is USD 50K regardless the severity of losses. This seems to come off the leaf of some standard operating procedure. Of course there is the usual outpouring of grief but where is the human touch in making decisions on aid? In this day and age USD50K is pittance and counts for hardly anything - even a small group of philantropist could do better. Come on Singapore, it's not enough to put on a human facade to the brains you have; you need a soul, too, to come ALIVE!
